About JDAI (Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative)
The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office is actively engaged with the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI). Launched in 1992, JDAI is a nationally recognized, evidence-based juvenile justice system reform project. JDAI engages community and justice system stakeholders to develop evidence-based strategies that reduce the costly use of youth detention, promote positive youth development, establish community-based responses, and ensure safe communities.
Operating in over 130 jurisdictions, the purpose of JDAI is to demonstrate that jurisdictions can safely reduce the use of secure detention for youth while maintaining public safety. Ramsey County began its work with JDAI in 2005.
