The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office operates the Adult Detention Center, commonly referred to as the Ramsey County Jail. Minnesota State Statutes requires every county sheriff to have "the charge and custody of the county jail" (Minnesota State Statute 387.11).
Opened in December 2003, the Adult Detention Center (ADC) is a 500-bed pre-trial facility. As a pre-trial facility, the ADC provides safe and secure detention services to individuals following their arrest until a court disposition is reached. The ADC also houses individuals being held for probation or supervised release (parole) violations or Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Ramsey County Correctional Facility (RCCF or Workhouse) is a minimum- to medium-security institution that houses inmates sentenced to a maximum of one year. RCCF also administers the electronic home monitoring and work release programs.
The Adult Detention Center employs over 130 law enforcement, correctional, and medical staff.
