
WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program
WIC is a nutrition education program that provides vouchers for free, nutritious foods for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, and for infants and children up to the fifth birthday. Participants in the WIC Program also receive a health assessment, strong support for breastfeeding, and referrals to services in their neighborhood. WIC has bilingual staff and access to telephone translation services.

Eligibility
To receive WIC benefits, a participant must have a health need that nutrition education and WIC foods can help. The household income must also fall within certain guidelines. Many people work and still qualify for WIC.

Food Vouchers
WIC provides food to participants through food vouchers. Participants redeem these vouchers at WIC eligible grocery stores. WIC can also provide special formula as needed.

Nutrition Education
WIC’s goal is to help participants prevent and improve medical problems including iron deficiency anemia, low birth weight babies, certain birth defects, obesity, osteoporosis, poor growth and many other problems.
