Farmers Market Nutrition Program
During the summer months, WIC participants receive coupons to be used at local farmers markets. Most families receive $20 in vouchers that can be used to buy locally grown fruits and vegetables at local farmers markets. In addition to the coupons, families receive ideas on how to eat more fruits and vegetables and nutrition information.
The Farmers Market Nutrition Program is administered by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Health WIC program. The overall goal of the program is to increase shopping at farmers markets and improving the diets of WIC participants by encouraging consumption of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables.
