Volunteers are Needed, Wanted and Loved!
Monarch Butterfly Monitoring
Age Requirement: Adults, Youth Ages 13+
Time Commitment: 2 hours a week during the season. Season runs June-August
Mandatory Training: Thursday, June 7th, 10:00 a.m. - Noon
Be part of nationwide research project to help monitor monarch butterfly populations. Gain hands on experience in scientific research. You’ll conduct weekly monarch and milkweed surveys in the field. Your contributions will help in conserving monarchs and their threatened migratory phenomenon in addition to advancing our understanding of butterfly ecology.
Discovery Guides
Age Requirement: Adults, Teens, Volunteer Duet
Time Commitment: Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays—Choose your shifts-Volunteer shifts run June through Labor Day weekend
This opportunity is designed to spotlight Tamarack volunteers in the ways they shine most. As a Discovery Guide you will share fun educational talks/activities with visitors exploring Discovery Hollow. Perhaps you know a thing or two about animal tracks or maybe you would like to lead a simple art activity. Showcase your knowledge about going green or rain gardens to spread the meaning of their importance. Engage the community by sharing a topic that you are passionate about. This is a great excuse to research something you want to know more about. You don’t have to be an expert. ;)
Garden Tender
Age Requirement: Adults and Families
Time Commitment: Dig in at least 4 times, more if you like
On the job Training — Late March through September
By digging into our brand new sensory garden you will surely grow your green thumb. Our garden is designed to engage children and families through exploration and discovery of a variety of flora within Tamarack’s new Destination for Discovery expansion. Your nurturing care will enhance the beauty of Tamarack Nature Center and create experiences for everyone to appreciate, especially the bumble bees and butterflies.
Beginners welcome, training provided.

Be a friend to the environment and help clean up accessible litter.
Give a friendly reminder to others regarding rules and safe use of the preserve. (Example: No smoking, No dogs)
Share nature sightings and discoveries by writing them on the phenology board located in the main building.
Report fallen trees, trail conditions or hazards to the front desk located in the main building.
Enjoy your time spent at the preserve.
