Children and 9-1-1

childChildren need to be taught how to call 9-1-1 in case there is an emergency where your child needs help. This information could help you, their grandparent or a neighbor in time of need.

Teach your child their,

  1. Home address
  2. Home phone number
  3. How to describe things (cars, people, houses, etc.)
  4. How to read street signs

Many phones are programmed to dial 9-1-1 just by pushing random buttons.  Old cell phones and other functioning phones are not toys because they can still call 9-1-1. If you would like to give a retired phone to a child as a toy, please remove the battery.
