Provide Cognitive skills programming for medium to high-risk offenders targeting cognitive distortions.   Helping the offender re-examine his/her values, understand the consequences to holding certain beliefs, and providing and modeling a set of skills to offenders on how to handle conflict and attain personal goals.

Help others to help themselves by providing telephone reminders of upcoming appointments, and/or other significant tasks/events. If you have limited access to transportation, or are homebound this is a great way to be involved in the community and provide service to others.

Assist Mental Health Center staff with the teaching of life skills (e.g. bus training, community integration and other participatory activities) by providing additional one to one attention, direction and support to participating clients.

Reach out and touch someone, make a difference in the life of a homebound or socially challenged individual by providing an opportunity for socialization by developing and maintaining a friendship over the telephone. If you have limited access to transportation or are homebound this is a great way to be involved in the community and provide service to others.

To teach correctional residents ways to enter the workforce. Provide resources to achieve work readiness. Teach residents how to compile and write a resume and application. Teach how to dress for an interview, hygiene, interview skills, etc.

To teach correctional residents alternatives that are positive, rather than stealing.

Transitional Housing Volunteer (Corrections) l 651.266.2386 l more information
To provide transitional housing information to inmates. The volunteer(s) will research transitional housing facilities on the internet, using a 211 United Way website, among others and provide descriptions and contact information to encourage inmates to access resources upon release.
