Background on the Office
The County Attorney is responsible for the prosecution of all felony cases and the presentation of cases to the Grand Jury; prosecution of juvenile delinquency petitions; litigation of child protection cases; establishment of paternity and collection of child support; commitment of mentally ill and chemically dependent persons; provision of civil legal advice to the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners and all County departments and officials; and representation of the County in all civil lawsuits. In order to provide these services, the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office employs just over 300 people and is strongly committed to creating a workplace that reflects the diversity of the population and seeks to increase the representation of minorities through active recruitment and other outreach efforts.
